From March 20 to 22, ISSP UL project manager Andris Ozoliņš had the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive three-day training program focused on the financial management of H2020 and Horizon Europe-funded projects. Organized by the esteemed European Financial Management Consultancy (EFMC), this training aimed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required for effective project management in the context of European Union funding.

The training was led by a seasoned expert in financial management and auditing, who brought a wealth of experience to the table. Participants delved into a variety of critical topics, including the overall structure of EU funds management as outlined by the European Commission, as well as the intricate legal framework governing grants. The sessions provided detailed insights into sound financial practices, covering key areas such as procurement processes, contract management, the provision of external services, employee management, timesheet regulations, and the handling of materials.

One of the highlights of the training was the focus on the financial audit processes that are integral to maintaining transparency and accountability in project records. This aspect of the training was particularly valuable, as it helped participants understand the importance of meticulous financial documentation and compliance with EU regulations.

In addition to the informative sessions, the training also offered an excellent opportunity for networking. Participants from various countries connected and established relationships that could lead to future collaborations and consultations. This exchange of ideas and experiences enriched the training experience, fostering a sense of community among professionals dedicated to advancing their skills in project management.
