Advancing smart windows and fostering European collaboration – SWEB Industry Day 2024

On November 7, the SWEB Industry Day was held at the ISSP UL. This significant event united international representatives from academia and industry to advance the latest generation of smart windows. Organized with support from the Horizon Europe-funded SWEB project led by Dr. Juris Purāns, the event aimed to create an interactive platform linking scientific research with practical solutions for zero-energy building technologies, in line with the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus initiative.

The SWEB Industry Day 2024 featured global experts sharing insights and fostering collaboration in smart windows and energy-efficient materials. Industry leaders, including Saint-Gobain (France) and Chromogenics (Sweden), showcased significant advancements in thermochromic and electrochromic coatings for sustainable construction. Interactive networking sessions enhanced collaboration between academia and industry, leading to opportunities for study visits, new research projects, and technological improvements. Discussions focused on industry challenges, such as improving response times and developing innovative materials, while highlighting the environmental and economic potential of smart windows for achieving zero-energy building goals.

Lead researcher Dr. Boris Polyakov, SWEB WP4 leader, remarked on the value of such events: "This platform encourages researchers to think creatively. The connections made here will foster the growth of a new research group within the SWEB project, driving innovations that tackle industry challenges."

The event supports young researchers, promoting applied science and the transition of technologies from the lab to the market. It strengthens European leadership in sustainable development and innovation. By integrating knowledge across disciplines, the SWEB project fosters the cooperation needed to address global challenges in energy-efficient building design. The ISSP UL plans to leverage insights from this event to further innovation and collaboration within the European scientific and industrial ecosystem.

This event highlights how CAMART2 has facilitated opportunities for ISSP UL researchers to collaborate on various European-level projects, thereby demonstrating their expertise in a broader framework.
