Materize team discuss future collaborations at ILA Berlin 2022

The ISSP UL’s Materize team attended the ILA hub for the international aerospace industry exhibition, which took place from 22nd to 24th June 2022 in Berlin, Germany. ILA Berlin 2022 gathered representatives of international industry, politics, the armed forces, and science. Around 550 exhibitors from 29 countries presented a wide range of high-tech products and research and development projects. Some 260 speakers discussed the latest aerospace topics on five stages. Key issues included climate-neutral flight, military security, and the benefits of space flight for humanity.

During the trade fair, the Materize team had face-to-face meetings with companies. As a result, successful contacts were established with 35 companies and eight other companies, and contacts within those were identified for further sales actions.

A couple of companies worth mentioning were Steel Trading & Technology, which offer a complete supply chain from material to final parts, including machining, testing, third party if needed, and logistics. With representatives of this company, discussions were made along with a possible starting offer for material characterization - sub-nm SEM (EBDS, EDS, STEM, TEM detectors - where 3d mapping of elements and phases can be done), spectroscopic services - XPS and other advanced analysis equipment FTIR, RAMAN, EPR.

Another company - Rocket Factory Augsburg, developing a launch service for small satellites to space in a unique setup to better understand and protect Earth, was approached. Possible cooperation in coating and thin film development and material characterization were discussed. The Materize team offered ISSP UL’s spectroscopic services and adaptive optics, for example, the wavefront sensor researched at the ISSP UL. The future collaboration with this company is currently being discussed.

In summary, companies were very open to further discussions about collaboration possibilities. Topics about services offered by the ISSP UL and potential joint projects had the most positive responses from companies in this trade fair.

Materize is ISSP UL’s structural unit established within the scope of the CAMART2 project to promote the export of scientific services in the area of innovative materials-based technologies and cooperation with the industry.
