President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits visited the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) on 6 March 2020. During the visit, he addressed the institute staff, learned about the CAMART² project, development of the ISSP UL and got acquainted with the new equipment and laboratories. President also toured the cleanrooms to see what it feels like working in a special environment and protective gear.
President Levits continued his visit by discussing projects, development, challenges and future perspectives of science sector and the institute with the management of the ISSP UL and laboratory staff. Egils Levits noted that excellent knowledge and technology is of great value in today’s world, and the ISSP UL can contribute to such knowledge and technologies. President also expressed his conviction that ‘through its intellectual and economic contribution the ISSP sets an example for others and Latvia should continue to develop such centres of scientific excellence’.
