On 11 November, within the framework of the course "Introductory Seminar in Physics and Engineering Physics", 2nd and 3rd year students from the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry of the University of Latvia visited the ISSP UL.
Students were taken on a tour at the ISSP UL, visited the laboratories and could meet researchers and learn about the state-of-the-art equipment. Representatives of the ISSP UL’s talked about the implemented projects and commercialization success stories.
The seminars aim to introduce the students to the most important areas of physics and engineering physics research and applied developments in Latvia and also to the leading experts in these fields. To get acquainted with the most important research institutions working in physics and related fields, as well as to deepen the understanding of the job opportunities for physicists in Latvia, part of the seminar sessions are organized in various Latvian research institutions and private companies producing science-intensive products.
The seminar sessions show the diversity of the use of physics knowledge in different fields and their great importance for promoting innovation and individual competitiveness in the labor market. The participants are also introduced to Latvia’s educational and scientific research organizations and their various funding opportunities.
The seminar’s objectives are to introduce students to places that employ physicists, encourage them to get involved in research and motivate them to choose physics as the field for their future careers.
