Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University students visit ISSP UL

At the end of July, a group of students from the Department of Materials Science and Optoelectronics of Taiwan’s National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) visited the ISSP UL. During the visit, the young people had the opportunity to get to know the ISSP UL, visit the laboratories and participate in lectures led by ISSP UL scientists about current research. As part of the academic exchange program, 20 students from Taiwan came to Latvia and had the opportunity to visit ISSP UL.

NSYSU is one of the cooperation partners of the ISSP UL, and the visit of the student delegation was one of the activities of this cooperation. Previous successful scientific collaboration with NSYSU has resulted in the formation of Taiwan and the Baltic States Research Center on Physics, which was opened on 12th March 2020 at the ISSP UL. The cooperation so far has brought joint workshops, research and publications in scientific journals.

The support of the government is also important for cooperation, so the student delegation was welcomed at the ISSP UL not only by the management of the Institute but also by the representative of the Taipei mission in the Republic of Latvia, Andrew H. C. Lee. He thanked NSYSU for active cooperation with the ISSP UL and expressed the readiness of the Taipei mission in the Republic of Latvia to support cooperation between Latvia and Taiwan in the field of science and higher education.

NSYSU is one of the most highly regarded institutions of higher education in Taiwan. It was founded in 1980 and consists of seven colleges, 21 departments, and 17 institutes.
