ISSP UL contributions to nanotechnology highlighted at FM&NT - NIBS 2024

Leading researcher Dr. Thomas Alexander Yager from the ISSP UL’s Micro and Nanodevices Laboratory, along with research assistant Edgars Vanags from the Microscopy Laboratory, recently participated in the Joint International Scientific Conference "Functional Materials and Nanotechnologies" and "Nanotechnologies and Innovations in the Baltic Sea Region" (FM&NT - NIBS 2024). This prestigious event took place from October 6 to 9 in Tartu, Estonia.

During the conference, Dr. Yager delivered an oral presentation titled "Graphene Hybrid metastructures for Mid-IR sensors”, co-authored with partners from CAMART2, RISE (Qin Wang), and Halmstad University (Ying Fu). His presentation was part of "Motivation Day" on October 7 and fell under Topical Forum V, focusing on Photonics, Sensing, and Devices.

Edgars Vanags showcased his research through a poster presentation entitled "Silver nanoparticle-decorated zinc oxide tetrapods: a promising substrate for biomolecule detection using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.”

The primary objective of their participation was to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in the field and to establish new contacts for potential collaboration.

The FM&NT conference series serves as a vital platform, uniting scientists, engineers, students, and industry experts from various research institutes, universities, and companies. It fosters international cooperation and stimulates research and innovation in materials and technologies that could evolve into high-value products and devices.

In contrast to national conferences, the NIBS series specifically connects researchers and business stakeholders from the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) and facilitates the exchange of cutting-edge research, innovative solutions, and applications in nanotechnology. This collaborative effort aims to drive advancements in the field and enhance regional cooperation.
