A leading researcher from ISSP UL’s Laboratory of Visual Perception, Dr. phys. Varis Karitāns participated in the Optics and Photonics in Sweden 2023 conference. The event was held at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, from the 17th to the 19th of October.
The scope of the conference included all fields of optics and photonics (light sources and sensors, optical elements, measurement technologies, thin films, modelling, etc.). At this conference, Varis Karitāns presented a poster, "Optical properties of Au/Ge/HfO2 stack of thin films for possible applications in waveguides with absorbing sidewalls". The conference scope matched the key research areas of ISSP UL.
The results presented in the poster were discussed with other scientists, and Varis Karitāns also discussed the simulations of turbulent media, the application of thin films, the structure of light sources and other topics with scientists (Lars Sjökvist, Åsa Haglund and others) participating in the conference. The exhibition of various companies related to optics was also attended.
Varis Karitans also discussed further cooperation between the ISSP UL and KTH as a part of a demonstrator project, “Nanostructured microlenses for phase retrieval from far-field coded diffraction patterns”. These projects involve cooperation between CAMART2 partners to develop functional devices for specific applications.
