Global experts in luminescence and scintillation materials convened for the 12th European Conference on Luminescent Detectors and Transformers of Ionizing Radiation (LUMDETR 2024) in Riga. Organized by the ISSP UL, ISSP UL Foundation, and the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, and Optometry of the University of Latvia (LU FMOF), the five-day event welcomed over 100 renowned scientists, researchers, and scholars from 17 countries.
The conference kicked off on June 16th with an opening ceremony featuring speeches from key figures, including conference chairman Dr. phys. Anatoli I. Popov, ISSP UL director Dr. phys. Andris Anspoks, vice-rector for research of the University of Latvia Dr. Guntars Kitenbergs, deputy state secretary for higher education, science, space, and innovation at the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia Jānis Paiders, and the consul of the embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Latvia Anara Kuttybajeva. Long-time participants were honored for their dedication to the field.
Attendees lauded the well-structured scientific program, which facilitated idea-sharing and international collaboration. Some of the participants considered LUMDETR 2024 as a crucial hub for discussing radioluminescence and scintillation materials, while others commended the conference’s high scientific standards and exceptional organization.
As the Chairman of LUMDETR 2024, Dr. Popov emphasized the event’s significance in driving research advancements and global partnerships in luminescent detectors and ionizing radiation transformers. The next conference, LUMDETR 2027, will be held in Częstochowa, Poland, and will be organized by Professor Dr. Arkadiusz Mandowski from Jan Długosz University’s Institute of Physics.
Acknowledgments were extended to the University of Latvia, the European Radiation Dosimetry Group (EURADOS), and SIA Baltic Scientific Instruments for their invaluable support in ensuring the success of LUMDETR 2024.
