Young ISSP UL researcher explores cutting-edge superconducting technologies at IOP’s 8th Superconductivity Summer School

Young researcher Luīze Dipāne from ISSP UL’s Thin Films Laboratory had the remarkable opportunity to participate in the 8th Superconductivity Summer School hosted by the Institute of Physics (IOP) at Wolfson College, Oxford, UK. The event, held from July 9 to July 12, 2024, provided an immersive and comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in superconducting technologies.

The summer school featured a diverse range of sessions, networking opportunities, and professional development activities. Attendees delved into various topics, including the Ginzburg-Landau theory, cryogenics, synthetic chemistry methods, quantum technology applications, numerical modeling, superconducting magnet design, and more. Through engaging lectures and discussions, participants gained valuable insights into the macroscopic behavior of superconductors, techniques for studying materials at low temperatures, and the practical applications of superconductivity in fields such as MRI.

One of the highlights of the event was the emphasis on both theoretical knowledge and practical applications, offering attendees a well-rounded understanding of the current landscape and future possibilities in superconductivity research. The discussions on room-temperature superconductivity and high-temperature superconducting (HTS) technology underscored the ongoing efforts and potential future breakthroughs in the field.

In addition to the enriching educational sessions, the summer school provided various platforms for attendees, including poster sessions, panel discussions, and self-introductions, enabling them to share their research findings, connect with peers, and interact with industry leaders. This collaborative environment fostered meaningful exchanges of ideas and experiences among participants from diverse backgrounds, including postgraduate students, undergraduates, academics, engineers, consultants, and other practitioners.

Overall, the 8th Superconductivity Summer School organized by IOP at Wolfson College proved to be an invaluable experience for Luīze Dipāne. The event not only deepened her knowledge but also inspired her to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in this exciting field.
