On November 26, four representatives from the ISSP UL’s Organic Materials Laboratory delivered a guest lecture at Ķekava Secondary School. They introduced students to the profession of a scientist and conducted numerous experiments on various liquids, exploring their density and light properties.
The guest lecture was part of STEAM Week for 5th-6th grade students, aimed at:
- Demonstrating engaging materials related to various scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
- Showing students that studying biology and chemistry is not only important but also inspiring and beneficial.
- Informing students about the diverse career opportunities that require knowledge in biology, physics, mathematics, and chemistry.
Approximately 180 students attended the event, where the laboratory representatives shared insights into the research directions of ISSP UL, the achievements of scientists, and the current Horizon Europe project “Towards a Center of Excellence in Quantum Photonics in Latvia (ToEQPL).” This project aims to advance the development of quantum photonics in Latvia and foster collaboration among various institutions, with ISSP UL, Riga Technical University, Trento University, and Troyes University of Technology serving as project coordinators.
This event enhanced young people’s knowledge in STEAM fields and sparked their interest in the world of science.
