One of the key objectives of the CAMART2 project is technology transfer in the field of applied materials physics research and innovation. Although various scientific discoveries are regularly made in Latvia and can potentially make a significant contribution to our economy, many of the discoveries are transferred by our scientists to foreign scientific institutes for further research at an early stage for a relatively small fee, or the scientists are already working on behalf of the foreign partners. The technology transfer program is an opportunity to attract funding of up to 300 thousand euros for one project to carry out research up to the final product or product prototype in Latvia.
On Monday, November 30, the evaluation commission established by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), consisting of representatives of business and scientific organizations as well as public administration institutions, made a final decision on allocating 7,975,000.00 euros for the commercialization of scientific discoveries. Funding is provided through the EU Co-funded Technology Transfer Program to promote the creation of high value-added products and services.
A total of 30 teams of scientists have received funding this time and 10% of them (three teams) - led by the researchers from our institute:- "Optical gas sensor", team leader Dr.sc.ing. Gatis Mozoļevskis
- "Development of holographic recording materials on azo-benzene", team leader Dr.phys. Jānis Teteris
- "Mass-produced gut-on-a-chip ", team leader Dr.sc.ing. Roberts Rimša
The aim of allocating funding is to promote the process of technology transfer in Latvia and to ensure that the results of scientific research in various fields are implemented in a practical and commercially applicable way. These could include ideas for new vaccines and medicines, new types of biodiesel, different sensors and virtual reality platforms.
The scientific team will be able to use the funding for industrial research, experimental development, participation in international exhibitions and conferences, individual visits, as well as other activities aimed at finding and reaching potential customers. The funding can also be used for enforcement of industrial property rights - preparing, registering and maintaining patent applications for inventions, preparing a commercialization offer and attracting experts for the preparation of license agreements and other intellectual property transfer agreements.
