Minister of Education and Science Ilga Šuplinska at the ISSP UL

Tuesday, September 22. The Minister of Education and Science of Latvia, Ilga Šuplinska and director of Ministry’s Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dmitrijs Stepanovs visited the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia where they met the management of the Institute.

During the visit, the Minister and her colleague could learn about the recently acquired equipment installed in the renovated laboratories of the Institute – infrastructure development that was possible thanks to the financial support attracted to implementation of the CAMART2 project from the structural funds and the Ministry of Economics. Ms Šuplinska and Mr Stepanovs also met scientists and found out about their latest research topics. The Minister was impressed by the Institute’s certified cleanrooms.

The guests also got acquainted with the CAMART2 project, its partners, financing plan and the impact CAMART2 makes on the Baltic Sea region and economic growth of Latvia in particular as well as on Institute’s staff development and progress. 

The visit was ended with a discussion about academic cooperation and future development of science as such.  The support to the concept of open access laboratories at the national level as well as the strategy of the Ministry of Education and Science, the proposed changes and the development of further dialogue and importance of cooperation were emphasized.
