Proper Science communication - one step closer to society

In order to reach the communication and dissemination goals set out by the CAMART2 project, representatives from ISSP UL’s Information and Communication department participated in three webinars devoted to science communication. The events were organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia within the scope of Science Days’ “Tune in to Science!” activities.

On October 14, the first of the webinars took place, during which participants could be acquainted with the results of the research “Target groups of scientific communication”, its main findings and recommendations. The research was carried out by scientists from Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences.

On October 15 and October 29, science communicators, scientists, and representatives of administration of scientific institutions were invited to participate in two communication webinars. The first of those was a workshop “What do scientists who want to communicate their research need to know?”, which was organized with communications expert Ieva Treija. Participants could find out how to address the society, establish cooperation with media, and get the most of science communication through various social media platforms. This webinar in Latvian is available online from here. In her presentation, Ieva Treija showed some examples of an excellent communication with society - one picture capturing a whole story. One of the examples was from ISSP UL’s communication campaign “Scientists and Hobbies” organized under CAMART2 set of activities.

On October 29, the theme of the webinar was Communication strategy and strategic communication of science. The practical aspects of the development of communication strategy, planning of communication activities at the institution and in project applications in national and international programs were discussed.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia in cooperation with the Latvian Science Council and the State Education Development Agency organizes a series of events "Tune in to Science!".
