Representatives of RIX-STO collaboration platform participate in C3NiT Centre Day 2021

On November 11, the Centre for III-nitride technology (C3NiT), a Vinnova Competence Centre led by Linkoping University in Sweden organized C3NiT Centre Day 2021. ​The program of the event featured three keynote talks from Hiroshi Amano, the Nobel Laureate in Physics 2014, Nagoya University, on Wireless Power Transmission, from Martin Kuball, University of Bristol, on Thermography of WBG rf and power devices and Farid Mdjdoub, IEMN, on GaN rf and power research at IEMN. Industrial partners, C3NiT project leaders, PhD students and postdocs gave further presentations.

Researchers representing CAMART2 project from ISSP UL and RISE – PhD Edgars Butanovs (ISSP UL’s Thin Films Laboratory) and Prof. Qin Wang from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden participated at the event. Dr. Edgars Butanovs comments that the event was focused on Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Gallium Oxide (Ga2O3) materials research performed in Sweden. "It was interesting to see the high-level research and technologies being developed based on GaN devices in Sweden. Especially motivating was the speech by Prof. Hiroshi Amano, the Nobel Prize winner in Physics 2014 "for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources."" He also answered questions from audiences, especially addressed the question regarding the semiconductor chip shortage nowadays. Prof. Hiroshi Amano had kindly invited possible collaborations in future.

There is an on-going international research collaboration between ISSP UL-RISE-KTH on ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor materials, particularly on Ga2O3 and GaN, which was recently initialized through the CAMART2 project. In the joint research, ISSP UL provides its experience in the field of materials synthesis and characterization, but KTH and RISE in the field of device design and manufacturing. This ongoing cooperation has so far been successful in applying for research grants and producing joint scientific publications. Within the activities of the collaboration, a visit of Edgars Butanovs to ProNano Lab in Lund will take place at the end of November to tour their facilities and discuss possible joint research directions in the future.
